The ninth AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society convenes technical, legal, philosophical, and social-science research in Malmö. The 2026 program examines the governance and societal consequences of AI systems as they move from experimental tools into entrenched infrastructure.
My takeaway: Use AIES to strengthen the assumptions around technical controls: who is affected, which harms and power relationships an evaluation omits, what accountability survives deployment, and how legal or organizational duties become measurable lifecycle evidence. Keep normative arguments distinct from empirical findings.
